Benicia’s abuzz about being the subject of a fun, informative two-page article in Sunset magazine’s June 2011 issue. The article details why Benicia’s a great “East Bay day trip” in the Northern California weekend section, pages 23-24.

Writer Peggy Nauts highlights the sweet spots in Benicia, calling it “the East Bay’s funkiest little art town,” mentioning the 500+ artists in residence. Benicia Plein Air Gallery and Studio 41 are noted, along with renowned art glass studios Lindsay Art Glass and Nourot Glass Studio.

The article touts Benicia’s culinary scene – giving Sailor Jack’s a nod for their happy hour oysters, fresh fish and fabulous views, and deeming Frankenburger’s half-pound, 100 percent Angus burger as the “best burger in the bunch.” Lucca Bar and Grill receives kudos for their classic, yet classy, comfort food.

Noting the Downtown Historic District’s architectural significance, Nauts encourages Sunset readers to grab a walking map from the Benicia Historical Society’s website to spot the Victorian and Gothic revival architecture in specific areas of the downtown.

Benicia… truly a “Great day by the Bay.”
