Benicia Old Town Theatre Group's Production of "Fences" Opening October 15
Benicia Old Town Theatre Group, named by readers of SFGate as among the top five theater groups in the Bay Area for 2010, launches its production of "Fences" on Friday, October 15. The opening night features a champagne gala.
Winner of the New York Drama Critic's and Tony Awards as well as the Pulitzer Prize, "Fences" features as its main character, Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball league who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded from the major league during his prime, Troy can't keep his bitterness from tainting his relationships with both his wife and son, who now wants his own chance to play.
Quoted in a newspaper article, director Terrence Ivory says of the play, "The characters… share a kaleidoscope of emotions and pain. This play will appeal to the heart. You will laugh and cry with the characters."
The play runs Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through November 6. For more information, and to buy tickets, go to www.beniciaoldtowntheatregroup.com.
