Spooky Fun in Benicia during October

Halloween in BeniciaBenicia is a "happening" place during October, with plenty of fun (and slightly spooky!!) goings-on for the entire family.

Scarecrow Contest

Kicking off the month is the Scarecrow Contest. On First Street during October, you will be greeted by more than 40 six-foot tall scarecrows imaginatively fashioned by downtown businesses. Vote on your favorite by picking up and dropping off a ballot at the participating merchants or during the Thursday night Farmers Market (at $1 per vote).

Haunted Depot
Things really begin to howl on Friday, October 15 as Benicia Main Street opens the doors to the 3rd Annual Haunted Depot!  The normally mild-mannered Southern Pacific Railroad Depot at 90 First Street will have been mysteriously transformed into a frightful depository of ghosts, goblins and spirits daring you and your family to pay a visit.

Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children under 6 years with a donation of a canned good (without a donation, adults are $6, children under 6 years are $3). The hours of the Haunted Depot are Fridays, October 15, 22 and 29, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Saturdays, October 16, 23 and 30, 12 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.; and Sundays, October 17 and 24, 3 to 5 p.m., and October 31, 3 to 8 p.m.  Afternoon visits feature a family-friendly experience.

Additionally, the Depot will also be the site of a pumpkin patch, making it a place to adopt the perfect Jack-O-Lantern.

Sorcerer Saturday
New this year is Sorcerer Saturday, October 16, from 12 to 5 p.m. – a family-friendly celebration of sorcerers, witches and warlocks!  Don't miss out on the Haunted Depot and pumpkin patch, petting zoo, kids activities and much more...and of course those special brews for the adults!

Halloween Costume Contest and Parade
Benicia’s Halloween tradition continues on Saturday, October 30 with the annual Halloween Costume Contest and Parade. Kids of all ages enjoy the popular Halloween costume contest and Trick or Treat Stroll. At noon, there will be the Annual Canine and Critter Costume Contest on the First Street Green with prizes and treats.

Farmers Market

The season for the Certified Farmers Market wraps up on Thursday, October 28 with the Farmers Market Finale. Enjoy an evening of special events, live music and surprises, including the announcement of the winners of the Scarecrow Decorating Contest and the Frequent Shopper grand prize. Market hours in October are Thursday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m.

For additional information on any of the events, please contact Benicia Main Street at (707) 745-9791.
