The special, temporary exhibit opened on April 6, the anniversary of America’s entry into World War I (1914-1918), commemorating those Benicians who lost their lives in the “Great War”. It's an opportunity to learn about the horrors of trench warfare affecting millions of soldiers in Europe. The exhibit also incorporates material on the flu epidemic of 1918, which played a deadly role during World War I.

Exhibit artifacts include helmets, uniforms, weaponry, and items used by soldiers in the trenches. All military personnel, current or retired, always have free entry to Museum exhibits; regularly scheduled hours are 1-4 PM, Wednesday - Sunday.

Benicia is well known for its vibrant artist community. Each year scores of artists open the doors of their studio spaces throughout Benicia’s Historic Arsenal District and all over town, providing a unique glimpse into their creative world. Join Arts Benicia in celebrating their 30th year during Benicia Artists Open Studios on Saturday & Sunday, May 6 & 7, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Visitors can ride the FREE SolTrans Shuttle between the Arsenal & downtown and explore artist studios on Jackson & Tyler Streets in the Arsenal, see glass blowing, tour galleries and other venues on First Street, speak with artists about their work, watch demonstrations, and purchase original art. Event and parking are FREE. Look for the Open Studio signs.

In the gallery, Arts Benicia will be hosting Mike Kendall’s Retrospective from April 8 - May 7. Mike is a well-known Benicia artist who has lived and worked in the Benicia Arsenal for over 25 years. He was the very first exhibitor in the Arts Benicia gallery in 1993. Besides being an incredibly active artist, he is a very generous member of the Benicia art community, always opening his studio space to share with multiple artists during Open Studios. This exhibition will be a unique opportunity to see and interact with Mike’s exceptional work and for Arts Benicia to honor him in their 30th year.
