Performing Arts

The Benicia Old Town Theatre Group promotes live theater in Benicia by sponsoring two productions per year at the historic B.D.E.S. Hall at 140 West J Street. In existence since 1964, the organization has staged more than 87 plays in 44 years, from the likes of "Blithe Spirit" to 2010's "The Great American Trailer Park Musical."

Special Events

Each July, Benicia Main Street hosts the Benicia Waterfront Festival, with the Carquinez Strait as the picturesque backdrop Benicia celebrates its picturesque waterfront locale with two days of live music, craft beer tastings, tasty foods, vendor village, and kids’ activity area.


Nightlife continues to evolve in Benicia with wine bars, upscale taverns and all types of music that can be found throughout town, including jazz, folk, French, blue grass and rock and roll. Live local entertainment venues such as First Street Café and The Rellik Tavern present locally and regionally known musicians on a weekly basis.

Organizations Supporting Performing Arts

The Benicia Arts and Culture Commission works cooperatively with the Benicia City Council, city boards and commissions, and other public and private organizations in creating and promoting art and cultural programs and activities within the city.

The interactive program presented by a member of the San Francisco Opera Guild fill feature scenes from Hansel and Gretel for ages 5 and up. Event is FREE. Come prepared to sing!

Benicia Chamber Players

An afternoon of music with the Benicia Chamber Players; Julie Kim and Clif Foster on violin, Ilana Matlis on viola and Thalia Moore on cello. They'll be performing Mozart string quartet in B flat major and Dvorak string quarter in G opus 106. Tickets are $20/adults, $5/students, available at Mozart Einstein & Me, 620 First Street.

Intimate Apparel is described as a thoughtful, affecting play that offers a poignant commentary on an era when the cut and color of one's dress-and of course, skin-determined whom one could not marry, sleep with, even talk to in public.
