WHAT ARE BUSINESSES DOING TO KEEP ME SAFE?

Kevin Almeida

Your safety is our top priority as Benicia begins reopening for visitors. That is why city officials are working to make sure businesses are aware of all the requirements issued by Solano County and the State of California.  Here are some steps businesses are taking to ensure your safety when visiting Benicia:

SOCIAL DISTANCING Businesses are implementing physical distancing of 6 feet for customers, or using barriers. Signage emphasizing Social Distancing protocols are to be posted at each public entrance.

To ensure this is possible, businesses may limit the number of customers in-store and establish clear paths of travel, include markings on the floor.

Where social distancing cannot be maintained (transaction counters), solid transparent barriers, such as plexiglass, will be installed. Alternate work methods will continue to be used to limit the number of on-site employees to the extent practical.

FACE COVERINGS In accordance with the Governor’s orders, employees are provided necessary protective equipment, such as masks and gloves, to be worn during any interaction with customers. All customers are required to wear face coverings while indoors in a place open to the public.

Some businesses may even have Visit Benicia masks to pass out, if you would like one.

SANITATION All surfaces and common areas are regularly cleaned and sanitized. Sanitary wipes and/or hand sanitizers are also readily available and easily accessible for employees and customers to use.

SIGNAGE Signs are posted at each public entrance of the business to remind employees and customers on COVID-19 precautions:

  • Avoid entering the facility if they have COVID-19 symptoms
  • Maintain a minimum of six feet of distance from others not of their household
  • Sneeze and cough into a cloth or tissue or, if not available, into one’s elbow
  • Wear face coverings and do not shake hands or engage in any unnecessary physical contact

In areas visible to all workers, signs are posted regarding proper hygiene practices:

  • Not touching face with unwashed hands or with gloves
  • Washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Using hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces such as workstations, keyboards, telephones, handrails, machines, shared tools, and doorknobs
  • Covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing

DEDICATED SAFETY STAFF A COVID-19 supervisor (an employee) is assigned to ensure compliance at each business.

For more information about the Roadmap to Recovery, the amended Stay-at-Home health order, social distancing protocol and frequently asked questions about the reopening, visit the Solano County website at www.SolanoCounty.com/COVID19

Bakery Creates Life-Size Halloween Bread Sculpture From the Hit Show, The Last of Us Mother/Daughter baking team in Benicia, CA create eye-popping bread sculptures every Halloween, inspired by popular film & television characters An incredible mother/daughter baking team in Benicia, California, who last year made international headlines with their " Pan Solo " bread sculpture, have done it again! This year’s masterpiece is the even more ambitious " The Last of Crust ," a life-size bread sculpture inspired by the hit show and video game The Last of Us , starring Pedro Pascal. The “clickers” from the show, hand-sculpted and baked by Hannalee Pervan and her mother Catherine in Benicia's One House Bakery , are covered in more than 1,000 individually-created "mushrooms." The exhibit took over 400 hours of labor to construct, more than twice as long as "Pan Solo." The creature's man-eating chompers were hand-sculpted and modeled after Catherine's own teeth.
