Benicia Art Walk Returns June 12!

David Sandler

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Benicia Art Walk returns to First Street this coming Saturday!

We Are Back!
Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Benicia Art Walk marks the city's first major public event of the year. After more than a year of pandemic fatigue, visitors of all ages finally have the opportunity to come out and celebrate one of the Bay Area’s most active art communities, viewing live demonstrations from local artists while exploring local galleries.

Free to Everyone
Escaping the heat this summer just got a whole lot cooler. The event is free to the public, and there’s always plenty of free street parking nearby.

If you’re not sure where to start, just look for the blue banners hanging in front of each gallery, or pick up the 2021 Benicia Art Walk brochure and map.

A Whole Day of Fun
The Art Walk runs from 1pm-5pm, every second Saturday of June, July, September and October. We recommend arriving a bit early, giving yourself time to visit One House Bakery to stock up on pastries and supplies for a scenic picnic to-go. And, whether you want to cap off the evening with dinner with the kids at Sailor Jack’s or Bella Sienna or even settle down with a tasty cocktail, Benicia’s unique and one of a kind dining options are the perfect way to end your day while escaping the bay.

As you explore First Street, make sure to take in your surroundings: the city is rich with public art and charming vintage architecture.

Moving from gallery to gallery, you’ll quickly find that the restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and breweries in Benicia fall under the “must-try” dining experience. And don’t forget to spoil yourself as you stroll past Benicia’s many boutique shopping experiences.

Artist Demonstrations and Participating Galleries:

129 First Street, in the Tannery
Artist Tina Hariu will conduct a portrait demonstration at 2 p.m. Or stop by anytime to view a number of Charles White’s student’s paintings on display and watch several teachers conducting classes.

333 First Street, Suite D
Gallery artists are in the process of creating a collaboration painting to be given as a prize on the Art Walk on the second Saturday in July. The painting, 24”x30” acrylic on canvas, is being created by artists Samantha McNally, Susan Street, Pat Calabro, Bruce Pope, Craig Moline, Annette Batchelor, Barb Duvall, Michal Lehmen, and Ok Kyong Hanrahan. Stop by to see the work in progress and fill out a free entry for the July 10 drawing.

637 First Street
The gallery will premier a stunning new collection by Geraldine Arata at an Artists’ Reception during Art Walk. Be among the first to view her new show-stopping collection of bejeweled and sculpted oil paintings. The gallery will also present new works by artist Greg Creason of New Orleans. His dramatic resine and inlaid blown glass portraits are in high demand and widely collected. Arata and Creason’s work are a visual delight and must be seen to be appreciated! Arata Gallery will be serving bottle water and individually wrapped treats from 1 to 4 p.m.

Artcentric, 733 First Street
The paint-your-own ceramic studio and gallery is hosting a sidewalk sale of canvas paintings. You might catch a painting demo, too! They offer quality handmade art for sale and local Benicia souvenirs.

129 First Street, in the Tannery
The Little Art Shop will awaken your senses with the creative works of over 30 talented local artists. During Art Walk, they will have a big sale on many of their handcrafted gifts and art. They are also hosting Mary Danko Williams, a talented and innovative fused-glass artist. Her creative flair and meticulous techniques shine through each piece that she creates, from wall art and functional pieces to garden art and jewelry.

307 First Street
Artist Iris Sabre’s exhibition New Beginnings will be on display.

309 First Street

632 First Street
New work is on display showcasing a variety of mediums. In addition to the ceramic art of David and Amy Stellato, they are excited to also have the visually stunning, mixed-media work by Travis White, Bay Area Artist. Additionally, they are introducing a series of photographic works by local artist, Nicholas Gallardo, in which a gorgeously rich and wide perspective of Benicia as a whole is given through many tiny “moments” fit together. They are also collaborating with Arts Benicia, who are presenting contemporary pastel and acrylic work by artist Ellen Gust.

Bakery Creates Life-Size Halloween Bread Sculpture From the Hit Show, The Last of Us Mother/Daughter baking team in Benicia, CA create eye-popping bread sculptures every Halloween, inspired by popular film & television characters An incredible mother/daughter baking team in Benicia, California, who last year made international headlines with their " Pan Solo " bread sculpture, have done it again! This year’s masterpiece is the even more ambitious " The Last of Crust ," a life-size bread sculpture inspired by the hit show and video game The Last of Us , starring Pedro Pascal. The “clickers” from the show, hand-sculpted and baked by Hannalee Pervan and her mother Catherine in Benicia's One House Bakery , are covered in more than 1,000 individually-created "mushrooms." The exhibit took over 400 hours of labor to construct, more than twice as long as "Pan Solo." The creature's man-eating chompers were hand-sculpted and modeled after Catherine's own teeth.
